A letter to my lace shawl....

My Dearest Candle Flame Shawl,

I don't know if you realize just how much I love you. You taught me how to love lace, how to become one with the pattern. I love how you play with negative and positive space to reveal a picture. You've been nothing but good to me, even when I've been somewhat less than good to you, like the time I threw you in my bookbag so I could take you to school with me and you got snagged on one of my spiral bound notebooks. But did you get mad? No. With a little manipulation you returned the snagged piece back to it's original spot. No fussing, no crying.

All these things I love about you are what make it so hard for me to tell you this.... I'm ready to move on. I'm ready to try new things. I want to get to know a new pattern the way I've gotten to know you. I also want to try new yarns... these in particular. Now don't go telling me I've cheated, I haven't even wound them into little yarn muffins yet. (not that the idea hasn't crossed my mind.) Besides, how could I resist when Knit Picks makes them so affordable?

I wonder sometimes if you're picking up on my vibe because recently, the more I work on you, the less you seem to grow.

Please don't be upset. I'm just being true to my feelings. It wouldn't be fair to either of us if I wasn't. Just know that you will always be in my heart.

Love,
Erin

On a side note, my leg has been particularly fascinating to watch. It's changing colors have been like that of a sunset... or something...
You have to admit, it's very impressive.

Lace can totally sense your hurriedness or anxiousness to start something new. Your scarf sounds like my doily who decided to run out of yarn the other day causing me to rip out tow rows and rip out my swatch. You must show patience with lace or she'll bite back. Although those colors definitely would make me a little excited too. Just put Ms. Lace aside for a day and come back to her when you can give her your undivided attention. She'll love you back.

Ok eeew that bruise is seriously something else. You may not remember how you got it, but I'm sure you'll always remember how you had it!

Ugh I just want to stick my face in that yarn and take a nap. It looks so cozy!

Oh, holy wow. Looky at that bruise! Reminds me of those color images of nebulas.

I can't wait to see what you knit up with those lovely yarns.

Dear Candle Flame Shawl,
You know what they say. If you love something set it free... Don't worry, Erin will find her way back to you. She just needs some time. Some sexy new project time.

I think your shawl will understand--but is sure to be jealous. But how can she not be? That yarn is yummy.

What a great post. I can't wait to see what you do!

And on a side note..the bruise is starting to match your yarn. Hope it is better soon. (The field hockey players that lived across the hall from me in college used to swear that pineapple juice made bruises heal faster...)

Dear Erin -

I understand how busy your life is and how, sometimes, relationships ebb and flow.

I hold no grudge against those muffins-to-be, for we are all individuals. They will never have what we have.

In the yarn world, it is quite common to share the knitter.

Just know that I'll always be here, waiting for you.

Your loving shawl.

If I were knitting lace, I would be writing a Dear John letter. Just don't have the patience.

Don't feel too bad about it! :)
Your new lace yarns are beautiful. Which KnitPicks are they?
